The shortcomings and damages of the conventional education system in India and worldwide are well-known. It has been largely shaped by a rigid and one-dimensional view of learning and human beings. In this system, education is very less about learning and more about training individuals to obey, compete, follow instructions and fit and conform to the norms of the society.
Ever since there has been a conventional system of education there have been alternatives. Individuals, groups, communities and cultures that have found, nurtured and developed diverse learning systems. They have offered a better, deeper and more holistic way of learning and educating. Alternative education in short is a long-standing and growing ‘movement’ comprising of various philosophies, methods, ideas and practices that reimagine education and learning.
